Princess Leonor has revealed where she’s heading after
completing her military training this summer!
Princess Leonor
will begin a four-year programme at the University Carlos III of
Madrid, where she will complete a bachelor’s degree in Political
Science, with a focus on coursework in political science,
humanities, law, economics, sociology, history and international
relations.
In a statement shared by the Spanish Royal Court, it was
revealed that the future queen of Spain successfully completed the
admission requirements for University Carlos III of Madrid, and
will study at the Getafe campus. King Felipe briefed the Spanish
Prime Minister on the choice of his heir’s education, as decisions
related to her study and training as future monarch is shared with
the government.
The Spanish Royal Court further shared that while Princess
Leonor is studying she will continue to carry out royal engagements
as required.

“Princess Leonor will combine this period of her higher
education with her institutional commitments as heir to the Crown,
just as she has done during her high school years and three years
at the military academies.”
This has mainly involved attending events surrounding the
Princess of Asturias Awards, the Princess of Girona Awards, and
Pascua Militar.
The Spanish Royal Court also shared
an update on Princess Leonor’s training at the General Air and
Space Academy on Monday, revealing that she has completed her
second solo flight—this time in a Pilatus PC-21—after months of
practical and flight simulation training.
Amongst her training, Princess Leonor has trained in “sea
survival exercises, training with protective equipment” and
“Survival, Evasion, Resistance and Escape exercises” and
took an oath to the Spanish flag, on the day of Virgin of Loreto,
the patron saint of aviators.
Princess Leonor will complete her third year of military
training on 15 July and will then begin her first year of
university in the fall. Unlike with her military training, however,
the decision on where to study and what course was left up to the
future queen and her parents, after which the Prime Minister was
notified.
Princess Leonor was admitted as an early decision applicant as
her secondary education was completed outside of Spain (she
graduated from UWC Atlantic in Wales in May 2023).
In the three years since graduating from UWC Atlantic, the
future queen has spent a year training with each branch of the
Spanish military. In August 2023, Princess Leonor trained at the
General Military Academy in Zaragoza; in July 2024, she began
training at the Naval Military Academy in Marín;
and last summer, she began training at the General Air and Space
Academy in San Javier.
