The King is returning to London from Balmoral as his summer
break comes to an end, with a busy programme of official
engagements now getting underway.
After spending recent weeks at his Scottish home, the King is
back in the capital today and is expected to resume his public
duties, marking the beginning of a packed autumn schedule.
The King flew from Aberdeen to London shortly after lunchtime on
Wednesday.
His return to London comes as official engagements begin to pick
up following the traditional summer period at Balmoral, where the
King and Queen spend part of the summer away from their usual royal
residences.
One of the King’s first engagements back in London will see him
welcome the Pakistan National Cricket Team to Clarence House.
The King is due to receive the team during the break between the
second and third Test matches being hosted in England this
summer.
The engagement provides an early indication that the King’s
working diary is getting back into full swing after the quieter
summer weeks.
The return to London also comes ahead of a particularly busy
autumn for the Royal Family, with the King and Queen expected to
undertake a significant overseas programme in the coming weeks.
In October, Their Majesties are due to travel to Guyana,
followed by a visit to the Bahamas, before continuing to Antigua
and Barbuda for the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting.
The King is expected to deliver an address at the biennial
summit, adding an important international dimension to his autumn
programme.
Alongside the overseas visits, the King is also expected to
maintain a full diary of engagements in the UK, meaning the quieter
summer period at Balmoral is now firmly giving way to a busy season
of royal duties.
