New Dolphins QB Malik Willis Throws Wild 1st Pitch in Video Before Marlins vs. Phillies

Miami Dolphins quarterback Malik Willis’ first pitch was just a bit outside.

Willis performed the first pitch honors on Friday evening for the Miami Marlins’ home game against the Philadelphia Phillies.

To Willis’ credit, he performed the task as honorably as possible, going to the rubber, doing a full wind-up and even wearing a glove.

The pitch just went wild, high and to the right. On the bright side, at least Willis didn’t fall short of the plate.

Of course, this pitch isn’t a big deal, nor is it foreshadowing for the future or a reason to sound alarm bells about Willis’ accuracy.

The Dolphins didn’t give Willis a three-year, $67.5 million contract because of his baseball-throwing abilities. He showed great potential to be a team’s QB1 in a limited sample size as the Green Bay Packers’ backup over the past two years, completing 70-of-89 passes (78.7 percent) for six touchdowns (no interceptions) and 972 yards (10.9 yards per attempt). Willis also rushed for 261 yards and three scores on 42 carries (6.2 yards per attempt).

He’s part of a new era in town as the Dolphins brought in their new general manager, head coach and quarterback from the Green Bay Packers. GM Jon-Eric Sullivan was their vice president of player personnel, and Jeff Hafley was their defensive coordinator.
