King Charles to make history on State Visit to USA

King Charles and Queen Camilla’s State Visit to the US will
include a truly historic moment.

Charles III will become the first King of the United Kingdom to
address Congress. Queen Elizabeth II was the first British Monarch
to address a joint meeting and her son will become the second.

It will be part of a significant time in Washington which will
include a glittering gala.

Washington

The revelation comes as full details of the trip are revealed
for the first time. Buckingham Palace has confirmed that the State
Visit will take place between April 27 and April 30.

The trip begins in Washington where King Charles and Queen
Camilla will be welcomed to the White House by US President, Donald
Trump, and the First Lady, Melania Trump, who will host them to
tea. There will also be a Garden Party at the White House which
will bring together guests from both the UK and US.

A more formal welcome will also take place at the White House
and will include a full ceremonial military review.

The stay in Washington will also include a glittering State
Dinner at the White House hosted by Donald and Melania Trump.

And the historic address to Congress will take place in this
opening phase of the State Visit.

There will also be a moving tribute from King Charles and Queen
Camilla who will lay a wreath and flowers in memory of those who
have lost their lives defending their country.

New York

The focus of the State Visit turns to economic and cultural ties
as the King and Queen reach New Yorkk.

The King will put a focus on supporting those who live with food
insecurity as he visits a grassroots community organisation helping
children and young people in need of help to take part in after
school sustainable farming initatives.

Queen Camilla will put the spotlight on literature, a long held
passion of hers. And she’ll celebrate a British institution who has
become a much loved figure in the US as well – Winnie the Pooh. The
cuddly bear is celebrating his 100th birthday this year. There will
be a reception for The Queen’s Reading Room which will bring
together high profile readers and writers.

King Charles will also join an event with business and financial
services leaders and celebrate the work of The King’s Trust while
in the city.

The most poignant moment will come when The King and Queen will
remember those killed in the 9/11 attacks as the 25th anniversary
approaches. They will also meet some of those who survived the
attacks and the first responders.

Virginia

The final leg of the State Visit will take King Charles and
Queen Camilla to Virginia where they will attend a ‘block party’ to
celebrate the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of
Independence.

There will also be a visit to a National Park for King Charles
where he will meet one of the area’s indigenous communities. His
time in Virginia will also see him meet people involved in
conservation initiatives and efforts to protect America’s natural
environment.

Another of Queen Camilla’s great passions will form the
itinerary in Virginia. The Queen will see the work of the country’s
horse racing industry when she visits a farm.

The State Visit runs from April 27th until April 30th. At the
end of the trip, King Charles will head to Bermuda for a Royal
Visit. It’s his first visit there as Sovereign and the first
official trip he has made to an Overseas Territory in his
reign.
