Ahead of Saturday’s historic fight card headlined by the highly anticipated showdown between women’s MMA legends Ronda Rousey and Gina Carano, Netflix and Most Valuable Promotions revealed the broadcast lineup for the event.
According to a release, former UFC champions Jon Jones and Cain Velasquez will serve as special guests for expert commentary and analysis, along with women’s MMA veteran Cat Zingano. The main desk hosts will be Netflix lead sports anchor Elle Duncan, former UFC champion Tyron Woodley, and longtime combat sports journalist Ariel Helwani. The cageside team will be led by iconic play-by-play commentator Mauro Ranallo, with former UFC star Kenny Florian serving as lead analyst.
Saturday’s fight card at the Intuit Dome in Los Angeles will be the first MMA event ever to be streamed live on Netflix, and the company is kicking things off in a major way. Rousey and Carano are viewed as pioneers of women’s MMA, and their long-awaited fight will finally come to fruition. Rousey will be fighting for the first time since 2016, while Carano will be returning to action for the first time since 2009.
In addition to Rousey vs. Carano, Saturday’s event features former UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou taking on former PFL heavyweight tournament champion Philipe Lins, and former UFC stars Nate Diaz and Mike Perry meeting for a hard-hitting fight.
Netflix and MVP also have a lot planned leading up to Saturday. The MVP Open Workout will be held on Wednesday at the famed Venice Beach basketball courts, with Rousey, Carano, Ngannou, Lins, Diaz and Perry all taking part, along with the undercard fighters. The final press conference for Rousey vs. Carano will be on Thursday at the Intuit Dome outdoor plaza. The public weigh-ins will also take place at the outdoor plaza on Friday.
It will all culminate with Saturday’s main event between Rousey and Carano, which will surely go down as one of the most memorable fights of the year.
