Cardiff v Swansea prediction
There is nothing to separate the two teams with the bookies ahead of Saturday lunchtime’s South Wales derby, with Swansea currently treading water in midtable make the short trip to a Cardiff side struggling in the midst of a relegation battle.
Cardiff head into the weekend unbeaten in their last five matches after 1-1 draw with Watford on Tuesday night followed a surprise 1-0 win over Championship title contenders Sheffield United at Bramall Lane in the FA Cup last week.
Despite their unbeaten run, Omer Riza’s side have won just one of their last 13 Championship matches, with their midweek point taking them outside the relegation zone for the first time since Christmas, now a point clear of Hull and Portsmouth in the bottom three.
Only Hull have picked up fewer points in the second tier from home matches in the league this season, but Saturday sees the Bluebirds take on a Swansea side who have lost their last three matches on the road, conceding a total of nine goals among them in the process.
Luke Williams’ side will be looking to get back to winning ways on the weekend after being knocked out of the FA Cup last week at the third round stage by losing 3-0 to a Southampton side marooned at the bottom of the Premier League table and 10 points from safety.
In the league, the Swans have won just two of their last six matches, though most recently held a play-off chasing West Brom side to a 1-1 draw, leaving them 12th in the table heading into the new weekend, seven points off the top six but 11 comfortable points clear of the bottom three.
Cardiff have won only one of their last seven South Wales derbies, with the Swans winning five in that time, though the most recent meeting between the two sides ended all square.
The Bluebirds, being on their current unbeaten run five match unbeaten, albeit just one win in 13 in the league, combined with a Swansea side with four defeats in their last seven games makes me think a second 1-1 draw in the South Wales derby this season is on the cards.
Cardiff v Swansea betting tips
Both teams’ recent form, combined with their most recent meeting back in August leaves a draw looking most likely, particularly with Cardiff being at home and further down the table/
20-year-old Cian Ashford has been making a name for himself in a Bluebirds shirt in recent weeks with five goals contributions and standout performances in his last six games, which includes goals against both Watford and Sheffield United in recent weeks.
