The Knicks are out to a commanding 2-0 series lead after stunning the Spurs twice in San Antonio
The NBA Finals is heading to Madison Square Garden with the New York Knicks holding a 2-0 lead over the San Antonio Spurs. In a rematch of the 1999 Finals, the Knicks took Games 1 and 2 on the road to take command of the series. In Game 1, they overcame a 14-point third-quarter deficit and stunned the Spurs 105-95. In Game 2, they nearly blew a 14-point lead but managed to eke out a thrilling 105-104 win after a crushing turnover and missed jumper from Spurs star Victor Wembanyama in the final seconds.
The Knicks, now winners of 13 straight, were well-rested after sweeping the Cleveland Cavaliers in the Eastern Conference Finals. They have not lost since Game 3 of their first-round series vs. the Atlanta Hawks on April 23. The Spurs, meanwhile, needed seven games to knock out the reigning champion Oklahoma City Thunder in the Western Conference Finals.
Now the Spurs have their backs against the wall headed into a hostile environment in New York on Monday night in the first NBA Finals game at MSG in 9,845 days. The last Finals game at Madison Square Garden was Game 5 in 1999.
