Jacksonville Jaguars two-way player Travis Hunter is expected to be a full-time cornerback and part-time wide receiver in 2026, per Cameron Wolfe of NFL Network.
Per Pro Football Reference, Hunter played 324 snaps on offense and 162 snaps on defense in seven games during his rookie season. Hunter’s campaign ended after he suffered an LCL tear in his right knee, but Wolfe said he’ll be a “full go” for 2026.
Obviously, the reported usage breakdown is a big switch from how the Jags used Hunter in 2025.
It’s unclear why Jacksonville could make this move, but one can assume it may have to do with the team’s personnel.
The Jags are pretty much set at wide receiver in 2026 with midseason trade acquisition Jakobi Meyers, Parker Washington and Brian Thomas Jr. as the top three.
Meanwhile, starting cornerbacks Montaric Brown and Greg Newsome II are both impending free agents. Wolfe said that the Jags plan to let “at least” one of those cornerbacks leave in free agency, leaving room for Hunter to step in as a starter.
The Jags just improved from 4-13 to 13-4 in the first year of an era started by first-year head coach Liam Coen. The future is bright in town, and Hunter, the No. 2 overall pick in the 2025 NFL draft, represents a big part.
It’s clear the Jags have big plans for him, and it appears that the focus will be on defense in 2026 as Jacksonville looks to take another step forward and make a deep playoff run.
