Thames Valley Police have released a fresh statement on the
arrest and custody of Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, just moments
after the eighth in line to the throne was released under
investigation.
The full statement reads: ”On Thursday (19/2) we arrested a man
in his sixties from Norfolk on suspicion of misconduct in public
office. The arrested man has now been released under investigation.
We can also confirm that our searches in Norfolk have now
concluded.”
The police also said that searches in Berkshire continue. Andrew
Mountbatten-Windsor was resident at Royal Lodge in Berkshire until
January when he moved to the Sandringham estate in Norfolk.
The police also said there would be no further comment at this
time.
Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor was arrested around 8am on February
19 2026 by officers looking into allegations of misconduct in
public office.
He has always denied any wrongdoing.
Following the arrest, The King issued a statement in which he
said that ”Let me state clearly: the law must take its
course.”
Charles III also said ”‘I have learned with the deepest
concern the news about Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor and suspicion of
misconduct in public office. What now follows is the full, fair and
proper process by which this issue is investigated in the
appropriate manner and by the appropriate authorities. In this, as
I have said before, they have our full and wholehearted support and
co-operation.”
The royal statement concluded ”As this process continues, it
would not be right for me to comment further on this matter.
Meanwhile, my family and I will continue in our duty and service to
you all.”

The King later attended British Fashion Week and, on arrival,
was asked by reporters for a comment but declined to speak – as is
usual.
