The King of Norway is in hospital with an infection: latest updates

King Harald of Norway has been taken to hospital while on
holiday.

Harald V, who just turned 89, was admitted to the University
Hospital in Tenerife.

Norway’s royals announced that the king was being treated for an
infection and dehydration.

The statement said he is ”reportedly” doing well.

The admission to hospital comes at a troubling time for Norway’s
royals. The family is under scrutiny after the Epstein files
revealed that the Crown Princess, Mette-Marit, had had a long
friendship with the convicted sex offender and even stayed at his
house.

A string of emails have emerged showing links between the two
with one indicating that the wife of the heir to the throne skipped
a major international event, a celebration for the beginning of the
reign of the King of the Netherlands, to spend time with
Epstein.

The revelations came just as Mette-Marit’s so from a previous
relationship, Marius Borg Hoiby, went on trial in Oslo for a number
of offences including counts of rape which he denies.

King Harald remains the most popular member of Norway’s royal
family and is seen as a strong constitutional monarch. He has
reigned since 1991, succeeding his equally popular father, King
Olav V, who was voted the Norwegian of the century in 1999.

King Harald recently turned 89 and marked the occasion with a
symbolic portrait showing him with his heir, Crown Prince Haakon,
and his eldest child and second in line to the throne, Princess
Ingrid Alexandra.
