Royal wedding lined up for early summer but there’s a slight hiccup in arrangements

The much anticipated royal wedding of the summer has been firmed
up but there was an unexpected hiccup in the arrangements.

Peter Phillips, eldest grandchild of Queen Elizabeth II and
Prince Philip, will wed Harriet Sperling on June 6 in a church
ceremony.

The couple announced their engagement last August.

However, their wedding announcement ran into a hiccup. The first
statement, issued on April 1 2026, announced the wedding date as
July 6. Just minutes later, a fresh communication set the date as
June 6.

The wedding will take place in a church in Kemble near
Cirencester, close to the home of Princess Anne, Peter’s
mother.

The church is nestled in the heart of the village of Kemble and
has a distinctive spire that can be seen from miles around.

The church was founded in the 12th century although a major
restoration took place in the late 1800s.

It also has a striking stained glass feature called the
Millennium Window.

Peter Phillips and Harriet Sperling had been dating for several
years before announcing their engagement. Ms Sperling has worked as
a nurse in the NHS.

Peter Phillips was previously married to Autumn Kelly with whom
he has two daughters. Savannah is 15 and Isla is 14. Harriet
Sperling has a daughter from a previous relationship.

Both wedding announcements said that The King and Queen and the
Prince and Princess of Wales had been informed.

It now remains to be seen who will attend what will be a society
wedding of the year.
