Three people, including two children, were killed in a crash in Colorado, according to authorities.
Around 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 2, a blue 2021 Subaru Forester rear-ended a semi-truck that was hauling a trailer on Interstate 70, Colorado State Patrol (CSP) said in a news release. The crash occurred around 75 miles east of Denver.
CSP Trooper Sherri Mendez told The Colorado Gazette that the collision tore the passenger side of the Subaru off. The car spun out of control and rolled over onto its roof, which severed the front passenger’s seatbelt and led to ejection from the vehicle.
A family from Montana was inside the Subaru, according to the outlet. The victims, identified by police as a 47-year-old woman, a 13-year-old girl and a 10-year-old boy, were all killed, reported The Colorado Gazette and NBC affiliate KUSA-TV.
The driver, a 62-year-old man, was taken to the hospital and as of the morning of Thursday, July 3, his condition is stable, according toThe Colorado Gazette.
The driver of the semi-truck was not injured.

A witness who saw the crash told local Fox affiliate KDVR that the driver of the Subaru got out of the car after the crash asking for help and said that his family was traveling to Arkansas for his mother’s funeral.
“I feel bad for the gentleman, you know, he lost his family, as we pulled up to the car, instantly I noticed that they — well, they didn’t survive it,” John Andazola told the outlet. “The top of the vehicle was sheared off, and it was upside down.”
“He couldn’t comprehend, you know, clearly there was trauma to him as well, and we ended up pulling him to the side so he didn’t have to see his family members,” Andazola added.
The eastbound lanes of Interstate 70 were closed until 8 p.m. Wednesday night, according to NBC affiliate KOAA-TV.
The crash remains under investigation.
