Tina Knowles’ ‘Matriarch,’ A New Intimate and Revealing Memoir Comes Out Next Year

Tina Knowles is telling her story.

Random House Publishing Group announced that the business owner, 70, and mother of Beyoncé will be publishing a new memoir titled Matriarch next year through One World. The book will follow her rise from a little girl in Galveston, Texas to a “cultural icon, businesswoman, fashion designer and philanthropist.”

Knowles’ memoir follows her youth, growing up as the youngest of seven siblings surrounded by the “sounds of Motown” with the “beach always within earshot,” according to a synopsis. However, “as the realities of race and the limitations of girlhood set in, she begins to dream of the world beyond,” the synopsis continues.

The book will take a deep dive into Knowles’ rise to “discover the life awaiting her on the other side of childhood” which is driven by her “instincts and impulsive nature.” It will follow her rise as a business owner, opening her “groundbreaking hair salon” Headliners in 1986 and her path guiding her daughter, along with Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams as the girl group Destiny’s Child to “global commercial success.”

Knowles has also gone on to co-found and run the House of Deréon, a clothing line named for her mother, and has also helped to create Cécred, her daughter Beyoncé’s haircare line. She also serves as Chairwoman of BeyGOOD, a non-profit organization founded by her daughter which works to establish “economic equity through a wide array of initiatives.”

“That life’s journey — through grief and tragedy, creative and romantic risks and turmoil, the nurturing of superstar offspring and of her own special gifts — is the remarkable story she shares with readers here,” the synopsis continued. “This is a page-turning chronicle of family love and heartbreak, of loss and perseverance and of the kind of creativity, audacity and will it takes for a girl from Galveston to change the world.”

The memoir, described by its publisher as “intimate and revealing” will cover the Knowles’ “multigenerational family saga” along with wisdom that is passed down through these generations, especially through “mothers to daughters.”

“I have always been a storyteller, and it’s something I learned from my mother,” Knowles said, in a statement shared with PEOPLE. “When I had a family of my own, I believed that my daughters needed to know where they came from to know where they were going.”

“I am calling this book Matriarch, because what inspires me is the wisdom that women pass on to each other, generation to generation — and the inner wisdom we long to uncover in ourselves,” she continued.

“Even at 70 I am still learning valuable lessons — revelations that I wish that I would have had at 40 or even 20. So, I have decided to tell my story, because I know what it means to me and my daughters and future generations of women,” Knowles concluded.

Executive Editor Kierna Mayo added that the memoir is “an exploration of intangible sensibility … Matriarch the book is going to expand and open new possibilities for the very meaning of the term ‘matriarch’ for readers everywhere. Matriarchs carry the way forth. They hold the center. They usher in what’s possible. They give you life.”

Matriarch will be published on April 22, 2025 and is available now for preorder, wherever books are sold.
