Prince William headed back to Dartmoor to see the progress being
made to help local communities in the area.
The Prince of Wales visited Princetown on Dartmoor for the
launch of its community fund.
He began his day, at Gather & Moor, a new community, visitor and
cultural hub in the heart of Princetown. There he met smoe of those
involved in developing a new community, strategy, for
Princetown.
William’s previous visit to the area had seen him drop in at the
youth club where he had seen the need for new facilities.
His return was a chance to understand some of the work that has
gone on to improve the club which is important for youngsters in an
area that includes isolated settlements, several miles from any
other villages or towns.
Following his first visit, William had asked the Duchy of
Cornwall to look at the possibility of supporting the club in its
ambition to improve its facilities.
During his visit, William was known as the Duke of Cornwall, the
ancient title that he took on almost exactly four years to the day.
The heir to the throne of England has been known as the Duke of
Cornwall for centuries. The Duchy of Cornwall, which also belongs
to the first in line, was established in medieval times to provide
the heir to the throne with their own income.
As first in line, William also inherited another title
automatically. The heir to the Scottish throne is always known as
the Duke of Rothesay. The most famous title for the heir is Prince
of Wales – King Charles bestowed that title on William on September
9 2022. William also remains Duke of Cambridge, the title he was
known by, for 11 years and which was given to him by Queen
Elizabeth II on his wedding day in 2011.
William’s visit came as his younger brother, Prince Harry,
turned 42 amidst a sea of stories that came to light through
exclusives in media sources. Firstly, ITV News revealed that both
the Duke and Duchess of Sussex had been told by RAVEC that they
would receive fresh security reviews following their unexpected
return to the UK in August.
Harry and Meghan announced they wanted to relocate to the
country after six years in California during which time they gave
several interviews in which they expressed unhappiness with aspects
of life in the UK and as part of the Royal Family. The King only
found out three days before the official announcement and after a
much hyped reunion with Harry in July when the Duke of Sussex and
his family had afternoon tea at Highgrove with his father and
stepmother, Queen Camilla.
Soon after the ITV exclusive, Hello magazine revealed that Harry
and Meghan had taken their two young children out of their new
school in England after two days. It was reported that the couple
had become concerned about the length of the school run which was
extending to an hour with traffic at peak times rather than the 30
minute journey without congestion that had been seen in the
holidays. Worries were also expressed about their convoy of cars
potentially being broken up by traffic and so they had decided to
send Archie and Lilibet to another school, closer to their home in
England, instead.
Last week, the Lord Chamberlain sent a letter to military
chiefs, lord lieutenants and government officials involved in
organising official royal engagements to underline that the Duke
and Duchess of Sussex remain private citizens and are not carrying
out roles in any other capacity. It also stated that their HRHs are
”in abeyance”, a term meaning they are permanently dormant until
revived by a Monarch and so cannot be used.
