Patrick Mahomes Talks 1st Game Back After Injury Rehab, Chiefs’ Dominant Win vs. Broncos

Patrick Mahomes had a long road to recovery ahead of him after suffering a torn ACL last December, but the Kansas City Chiefs star quarterback attacked his rehab and managed to get back on the field by Week 1.

His work came to fruition on Monday with a 31-10 win over the Denver Broncos.

“I just wanted to play. I’ve done so much rehab, so much work to kind of put myself in this position,” Mahomes said. “I just wanted to get out there and play. This is what you do it for, and I was able to play and go out there, and my guys around me kind of helped me.”

Mahomes was far from the best version of himself as he threw for 184 yards and an interception on 15-of-27 passing, adding three total touchdowns. But he knew he’d need some time to get back into the swing of things, and he got tremendous support from his teammates.

“I didn’t feel like I played my best football,” Mahomes said. “We were still able to go out there and beat a really good football team pretty well cause the guys around me stepped up and knew that they were going to have to help me as I kinda of get back in the rhythm of things.”

Mahomes’ newest weapon stole the show as Kenneth Walker III accounted for 191 total yards and two touchdowns. Mahomes’ familiar weapon, tight end Travis Kelce, picked up three receptions for 71 yards.

Mahomes will look to do a bit more next week against the Indianapolis Colts, but he was just thrilled to be back on the field.
