Jason Kidd confirmed that he’d be willing to coach in the NBA again following his departure from the Dallas Mavericks at the end of the 2025-26 season.
“Yeah, I think I love coaching. I love to watch players get better. I want to win. I want to help the team win,” Kidd told Rappler’s Delfin Dioquino (h/t Grant Afseth of Dallas Hoops Journal). “And so I would never say no to coaching. Maybe somewhere down the future, but also right now I’m just at home really trying to enjoy my family. And then also just watching the game and seeing if I can help others still from the coaching side. I’m always talking to Jalen Brunson and to Giannis. So just trying to help others now that I’m not coaching.”
Kidd and Dallas mutually agreed to part ways on May 19 after compiling a 26-56 record during the team’s 2025-26 campaign.
Kidd has spent 10 years as a head coach with the Mavericks, Milwaukee Bucks and Brooklyn Nets following his Hall of Fame career as a point guard from 1994 through 2013.
He owns a 388-395 overall record as a head coach while posting a 205-205 mark during his tenure in Dallas. Kidd helped the Mavericks make an NBA Finals appearance in 2024.
It’s also worth noting that he spent multiple years as an assistant on the Los Angeles Lakers’ coaching staff, including the team’s 2019-20 season that ended with a championship.
Kidd is familiar with working alongside stars that include LeBron James, Luka Dončić, Giannis Antetokounmpo and Jalen Brunson.
