Princess Eugenie’s daughter just leapfrogged these royals in the succession

The newest member of the Royal Family might not yet have a name
but they do already have a place in the line of succession.

The brand new daughter of Princess Eugenie and her husband Jack
Brooksbank, born in Portugal on August 3rd 2026, is fifteenth in
line to the throne and she’s already leapfrogged two very famous
royals to get there.

Up until the moment baby Brooksbank number three arrived in a
hospital in Lisbon, at 6.20pm on August 3rd, the number fifteen
spot had belonged to her great uncle, Prince Edward.

The Duke of Edinburgh was third in line to the throne when he
was born but has now shuffled down the succession behind the family
of his older brother, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, and he now sits
at number sixteen with his new great niece ahead of him.

Also behind the new royal baby in the line of succession is the
Princess Royal. Anne, like Edward, was third in line to the throne
at birth and moved up to second when her mother became Queen in
February 1952. However, she started her descent through the
succession in 1960 on the birth of Andrew and, following the
arrival of his latest grandchild, she is now nineteenth.

The arrival of the new baby also means that the first 26 people
in the line of succession are direct descendants of Queen Elizabeth
Ii and Prince Philip and the first 32 are all direct descendants of
King George Vi and Queen Elizabeth, later The Queen Mother.

In fact, the latest member of the House of Windsor was born just
hours before the 126th anniversary of The Queen Mother’s birth.
Although no name was announced as her birth was revealed, it’s
expected that the new baby will have Elizabeth somewhere among her
names. She is a first daughter for Eugenie and Jack who have shown
a preference for family names as middle names with their two
sons.

Their boys – August,, 5, and Ernest,3, – also give a clue as to
which era might be inspiring the Brooksbanks in naming their little
girl. The couple chose Victorian names for their sons with August
and Ernest both coming from the family of Prince Albert, husband of
Queen Victoria.

It seems like a sensible guess that Eugenie and Jack will choose
a similar type of name for their daughter with Victoria itself a
hot favourite.

The name hasn’t been used as a first name in the Royal Family
for quite some time so the latest addition wouldn’t find herself
sharing it with anyone closely related to her. It’s also one of
Princess Eugenie’s middle names.

Just one image of baby Brooksbank has been shared. She’s seen
being cradled soon after her birth at a hospital in Lisbon. She’s
the first member of the House of Windsor to be born in
Portugal.

The Royal Family immediately took to social media to welcome the
little girl and The King and Queen said they were delighted to have
been informed of the news.
