A royal editor believes Eugenie’s baby will not have the same experience as his or hers siblings
Princess Eugenie‘s baby news is expected to bring a “very different” dynamic to the family, according to a royal editor. The youngest of Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor and Sarah Ferguson’s two daughters announced last week that she is expecting her third child with husband Jack Brooksbank.
A statement from Buckingham Palace read: “His Majesty The King has been informed and is delighted with the news.” It continued that Jack and Eugenie’s two children, August, five, and Ernest, two, are “also very excited to have another sibling join the family”.
According to Hello! Magazine’s royal editor Emily Nash, Eugenie’s new baby may not experience the same family dynamic as her older siblings, following a tough few months.
She wrote: “This baby will be born into very different family dynamics to those experienced by his or her older siblings. Although their grandmother Sarah and grandfather Andrew have spent plenty of time with August and Ernest, they are likely to keep more of a distance this time around, although I’m sure that Sarah will find it very hard to stay away from a new grandchild.”
She added of the King’s reaction to the news and what could be next for Eugenie: “The King’s warm words show that he still has a great deal of affection for Eugenie and that he has not ostracised his nieces. We might well start seeing them at family gatherings again.”
Princess Eugenie’s announcement comes after a challenging period for both her and her sister Princess Beatrice.
Following Andrew and Sarah being named in the US Department of Justice’s Epstein files, the siblings were said to be “aghast” and “deeply embarrassed”.
Being named in the files does not indicate any wrongdoing. Neither Eugenie nor Beatrice has made any public statement regarding their parents’ alleged links to Epstein.
Since alleged emails between Sarah and Epstein were made public, the former Duchess of York has kept a low profile, appearing in public only once in seven months.
Andrew has also remained largely out of the spotlight since leaving Royal Lodge and relocating to Marsh Farm, following the removal of his royal titles in 2025.
For several months, there have been rumours that Beatrice and Eugenie’s relationship with their parents has been under strain, with some commentators even suggesting Eugenie is no longer on speaking terms with Andrew.
Commenting on the reports alongside Eugenie’s baby news, royal expert Jennie Bond told The Mirror: “I’m sure both Andrew and Sarah will share their daughter’s joy. Although the state of their relationship with both Eugenie and Beatrice remains unknown.”
She added: “When a crisis like this happens, it can make or break a couple, and it looks very much as if Eugenie and Jack have been brought even closer together.”
