Princess Kate spotlights British brand with chic knitted look that gives subtle nod to Diana

The Princess of Wales arrived for her latest outing wearing a chic knitted ensemble from a trending British brand, and it included a touching subtle nod to the late Princess Diana

The Princess of Wales Kate Middleton kicked off the first of her festive royal engagements today as she welcomed the President of the Federal Republic of Germany and his wife Elke Büdenbender for their state visit. Princess Kate was joined by Prince William for the meeting, with the couple co-ordinating perfectly in blue and black outfits.

Whilst William opted for a classic black overcoat and blue tie, Princess Kate matched perfectly in an outfit that was full of hidden meanings. Her powdery blue wool coat hailed from Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen, who famously designed her wedding dress, whilst her sapphire and diamond pendant earrings belonged to the late Princess Diana.

Kate adorned her coat with the Princess of Wales feather brooch, which is a historical accessory that was originally a wedding gift to Princess Alexandra of Denmark in 1863. The brooch, which features three ostrich feathers crafted from diamonds and emeralds, has been worn by both Princess Diana and Queen Camilla in the past, and has now been passed down to Princess Kate when she took over the title of Princess of Wales.

To make sure she stayed warm in the chilly weather, Kate also wore a black knitted midi dress from British heritage brand Burberry, which is having a new resurgence of popularity right now. Whilst it’s always been known as a classic brand, its recent campaigns have seen Burberry come back to the forefront of luxury brands, proving Princess Kate knows exactly how to expertly balance classic and trending fashion.

Her exact dress is a custom version of Burberry’s Belted Check Wool Dress , which you can pick up for £1760. Unlike the regular sleeveless design, Kate appears to be wearing an as-yet unavailable version which has long sleeves to help keep her warm despite the December chill.

Whilst you can’t shop Princess Kate’s exact look, the high street has delivered with some other, more affordable options if you want to incorporate her look into your wardrobe. At ASOS, the £119 & Other Stories Pure Wool 2-In-1 Fine Knit Midaxi Dress is a great option, with a similar fitted waist and bodice and flaring A-line midaxi skirt.

Meanwhile at New Look, the Black Belted Wrap Midi Dress is just £33.99 and has a sophisticated and flattering silhouette that nips in at the waist with a belt to accentuate the hourglass shape. Both can be worn everywhere from the office to dinner and drinks, making them a great timeless staple to keep in your wardrobe.
