Manning quarterbacks have a history of being selected at or near the top of the draft, and that still could be the case — but things aren’t off to a blazing start.
The Longhorns lost their season-opener at Ohio State, and Manning completed just 17 of 30 passes for 170 yards, one touchdown and one interception.
He bounced back in Week 2, completing 19 of 30 passes for 295 yards, four touchdowns through the air, a rushing score and one interception against San Jose State. Despite the improvement, his odds remained unchanged.
Garrett Nussmeier, the early favorite on both boards, has held steady. He opened the season by leading LSU past then-No. 4 Clemson, finishing 28-of-38 for 232 yards and one touchdown. In Week 2, he threw for 237 yards, a touchdown and one interception in a win over Louisiana Tech.
Penn State’s Drew Allar, second at DraftKings and third at FanDuel, has been consistent. He went 22-of-26 for 217 yards and a touchdown in a Week 1 win over Nevada, followed by a 19-of-33, 200-yard, two-touchdown performance in Week 2.
Going back to the Manning family history, Archie was the second pick in the 1971 NFL Draft, landing in New Orleans.
Nearly three decades later, in 1998, Peyton was picked first by the Indianapolis Colts.
Then, just six years after that, in 2004, Eli went No. 1 to the New York Giants.
